Flower: Cream white followed by edible berries enclosed in 2″ large bright orange, paper-like calcyces, that resemble chinese lanterns, in fall
Height: 1.5′ tall x 3.5″ wide
Light: Full sun to part shade
Soil: Moist, loamy, sandy, well drained
P.H: 6.1-6.5
Moisture: Prefer Moisture
Zone: 5-9
Use: Ornamental, dried or fresh seed pods for decorative cut flower. Quick spreading ground cover. Deer resistant. Late season interest
Tolerances: Poor soil, Disease free
Problems: Slugs go for new Spring growth. Can become a problem, can form colonies as it naturalizes. Plant in pots or remove trailing underground runners in fall. Best kept out of perennial borders
Notes: Can become invasive if not controlled, Does well in pots.

To dry cut stems just as lanterns turn color. Remove leaves and hang small bunches, upside down in dry cool airy location out of direct sunlight

Indoors: Sow March or April in greenhouse, just covering seed. Germination usually quick. Prick to individual pots of fairly rich soil when large enough to handle. Plant out early summer 1 meter apart. Best in containers as spreads by underground runners
